Learning Objectives

  1. Consolidate skills in history taking, physical examination, reaching an appropriate clinical diagnosis and further discuss on the appropriate investigations and relevant management of common surgical conditions

  2. Understand the overall management of a wide range of surgical conditions and diseases

  3. Be familiar with commonly use treatment modalities for surgical conditions, including pharmacological agents, radiological interventions and surgical operations

  4. Understand the role of multidisciplinary team management in complex surgical diseases to provide a holistic care for patients

  5. Understand palliative care principles in managing recurrent or terminal malignancies or conditions in the practice of surgery

  6. Gain understanding in the management of common surgical emergencies, including acute abdomen, bleeding GITs etc.

  7. Attain basic skills in performing surgical procedures including suturing, knot tying, basic bedside procedures and hand washing and gowning steps in the operating theatre

  8. Equip with practical skills required of a surgical intern

  9. Be able to communicate well with patients, relatives and team

  10. Learn to balance time for learning and revision of surgical knowledge while at work as an intern
