Led by Dr Tay Kae Jack, the aim of the Database Registry is to build a sustainable data management team to support the departments in Surgery ACP in database management. The mission is to be the “go-to-place” in Surgery ACP for data management to facilitate research and clinical audit: defined as collection, extraction, analysis, centralization, maintenance and auditing. The Database Registry provides expertise to assist surgical departments to integrate their existing databases into RedCap. The database registry uses the RedCap application which is a safe and secure online platform enabling departments to maintain their databases in compliance with the current Personal Data Protection Act and human Biomedical Ressearch Act.

RedCap

RedCap is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. This easy-to-use web application can be used to collect virtually any type of data and is designed to support online and offline electronic data capture for research studies and operations.

This centralized platform for data collection is beneficial in the following:

  1. Standardised platform for collaboration and comparison between different databases
  2. Facilitate administration, refinement and improvement of all databases easily
  3. Maximise expertise by pooling limited resources

With RedCap, researchers can easily create web-based databases and data capture forms with special features such as real-time data entry validation and export the collected data for analysis, without the need for in-depth technical knowledge.
