Karen Tham is a registered nurse specialising in anaesthesia nursing and an educator in the Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Perianaesthesia) programme since 2009. Her clinical and teaching journey reflects a strong commitment to patient advocacy, precision, and effective teamwork—core values she strives to instil in her students. She is also an author of innovative teaching strategies, including peer-led simulation and the Hockey Line approach in large group simulation.Passionate about education, Karen believes that learning should be interactive, reflective, and enjoyable. This has driven her to adopt and develop creative teaching methods such as simulation-based learning and Virtual Escape Rooms to enhance student engagement. Despite having no formal IT background, she is self-taught in digital tools such as Google Sites, Slides, and Forms, leveraging online resources to design immersive learning experiences.Inspired by her son’s interest in escape rooms, Karen creatively integrates problem-solving elements into her teaching, transforming complex nursing concepts into engaging and meaningful learning opportunities for today’s learners.
