Associate Professor Champion Nyoni is a distinguished expert in health professions education and currently serves at the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, where he leads the Health Workforce Education and Training portfolio. With extensive experience across multiple sub-Saharan African countries, he has been pivotal in advancing health professions education, particularly within low-resource settings. His leadership spans faculty development, curriculum innovation, and institutional strengthening, with a strong focus on competency-based education as a transformative strategy to address Africa’s health workforce needs. 

A/Prof Nyoni’s research explores strategies to develop a competent, community-oriented health workforce equipped to meet the pressing health challenges of underserved populations. At WHO, he spearheads a flagship initiative to transform health professions education across the African region through the design and implementation of prototype competency-based curricula. His contributions to the field have earned international recognition, including honors from Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) and the Southern African Association of Health Educationalists, where he was named a Distinguished Educator.
