Dr. Jayne Smitten, an internationally recognized leader in healthcare simulation experiential education, has served in various academic leadership roles, embracing innovative health discipline teaching and learning experiences for five universities on her career journey [within Canada (3), Middle East (Doha, Qatar) and USA (Honolulu, Hawaii)]. 

Dr. Smitten, Past President Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and named to the Academy of Fellows in the SSH, also serves on the Accreditation Board of Review for simulation centres worldwide and was one of the first credentialed CHSE-A (Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator- Advanced).

Dr. Smitten provided leadership in debriefing, policy development, research, strategic and business planning, and uses innovative teaching strategies for technology-based education programs [ranging from keiki to kupuna (Hawaiian) – or otherwise known as child to elderly populations]. As a result, she has presented at various international healthcare and simulation conferences, delivering lectures, workshops, and round table discussions around the world and contributing in authorship to various peer-reviewed simulation-based articles and textbook chapters. 

Dr. Smitten has also served many leadership roles in the nursing profession and was honoured to be chosen as one of the top 100 Alberta Nurses for Centennial Nursing Award (selected from over 37,000 Registered Nurses in Alberta, Canada).
