Healthcare professionals that debrief multi-professional teams frequently focus on practicing traditional facilitation techniques such as Advocacy and Inquiry and Plus Delta. They often feel less comfortable with advanced techniques for difficult debriefings and debriefing high performance. In this workshop with Dr Ben Symon, co-producer of the podcast ‘Simulcast’, attendees will enjoy a speed-date through difficult debriefing techniques, explore common debriefing challenges, and develop a broader tool set for dealing with real healthcare conversations.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to :

1. Understand the pro-active and reactive strategies of Grant et al’s ‘Difficult Debriefing Toolbox’, including ‘naming the dynamic’, ‘visual dominance ratios’, ‘generalisation’, and ‘broadening’.
2. Begin to practice advanced debriefing techniques in pairs and small groups
3. Engage in deliberate practice of the ‘inbetween moments of debriefing’ – previews, transitions and paraphrasing.
