The future of healthcare simulation is evolving with AI-driven technologies, and one of the most transformative innovations is AI-generated text-to-speech (TTS). While simulation is a valuable educational tool, it often faces limitations, particularly in vocal integration. Effective communication is a cornerstone of healthcare training, yet traditional methods—whether through patient simulators, task trainers, Simulated Participants (SPs), or hybrid learning models—can be restricted by pre-programmed responses, lack of customization, or gender-specific voice constraints. AI-driven TTS technology offers a solution by enabling dynamic, customizable, and consistent vocal responses. By incorporating AI-generated speech, simulation centers can enhance realism, eliminate rigid pre-set responses, and create more inclusive and adaptable learning experiences.
This workshop explores how AI TTS can modernize simulation, ensuring that centers remain at the forefront of innovation. This interactive workshop will introduce participants to AI voice tools and their applications in healthcare simulation. Participants will explore AI-powered text-to-speech platforms capable of generating lifelike vocal responses in multiple languages and tones, enhancing scenario realism. A hands-on component will allow participants to engage with these tools on their own devices, creating custom AI-generated voices and developing simulated question-and-answer interactions between learners and virtual patients. The session will also address the advantages and challenges of AI-driven vocal responses, including their potential to enhance patient simulator interactions, standardize prebriefings, and improve learner engagement. Finally, the workshop will emphasize ethical considerations, including responsible AI use, potential misuse, institutional approvals, and adherence to professional codes of conduct.
By the end of the session, participants will have a foundational understanding of AI text-to-speech technology and its role in enhancing healthcare simulation.
