Nurturing medical minds of tomorrow
“to teach them this art – if they desire to learn it – without fee and covenant; to give a share of precepts and oral instructions and all other learning to my sons and to the sons of him who has instructed me and to pupils…” – original Hippocratic Oath translation (460 BC – 370 BC)
The medical profession is singular in its philosophy in teaching future generations of doctors. The Hippocratic Oath reflects this as part of physicians’ ethical oblications.
In healthcare, learning continues long after graduation - in fact it never stops! Clinicians continue to hone their skills throughout their careers, as more scientific findings and new technologies yield new and improved ways to diagnose, treat and cure.
Because we want you, your family and your loved ones to enjoy better health now and in the decades ahead.
To provide the best care, clinicians – including doctors, nurses and allied health professionals - need to ask patients the right questions, listen attentively and use sound clinical judgment. These skills are best learnt through inter-professional education, peer-to-peer learning, mentoring and on-the-job teaching such as watching master physicians talking to their patients - the same way medical pioneers taught today’s senior clinicians.
Your support enables us to continue and further this time-honoured practice of ensuring that each generation of clinicians is better trained than their predecessors. Ultimately, your gift ensures a legacy of excellent healthcare professionals who will provide the best care for your children’s grandchildren. Gifts towards medical education may support areas such as Professorships, fellowships and faculty development.
