Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) pays critical attention to the care and use of animals for research purposes and is responsible for ensuring that all animal experiments comply with the National Advisory Committee for Laboratory Animal Research (NACLAR) guidelines. Before investigators can embark on an animal research project, they must first submit  a complete IACUC application form outlining a summary of their research, species of animals to be utilised, the experimental procedures, number of animals required, etc  for IACUC approval.

DE-COMMISSIONING OF iSHaRe AND IMPACT TO IACUC SUBMISSION

The CIRB has announced their intent to migrate to the National ECOS (Ethics and Compliance Online System) in the first quarter of FY2024 and 1 Feb 2024 will be the last submission for IRB applications.  To prepare for the migration and de-commissioning of iSHaRe, IACUC will also need to be ready to make sure that IACUC operations will not be severely impacted. 

iSHaRe will be replaced by the Animal Research Ethics Review and Animal Facility Management system (also known as "Animal Research Information and Ethics System" or "ARIES").

SUBMISSION PROCESS TO SINGHEALTH IACUC

With effect from 1 Dec 2023, all New IACUC applications, must be submitted via official corporate email to the IACUC Secretariat at iacuc@singhealth.com.sg.

From 8 Nov 2023, all amendment requests to approved protocols, Project Updates and Final Project Report must be submitted via official corporate email to the IACUC Secretariat at iacuc@singhealth.com.sg.

To avoid delays in one's application, the completed new application should be submitted early to a SEMC Vet for a Vet Checklist. The final submission to IACUC (including the Vet Checklist) together with all relevant documents must be submitted to the IACUC Secretariat (iacuc@singhealth.com.sg) by the 7^th day of the month (except December), otherwise, it will be reviewed in the next review cycle.

For approved applications with significant amendments, the request must be submitted by the 14^th day of the month, or it will be reviewed in the next review cycle.

Reporting to IACUC

You are entitled to report, verbally or in writing, any concerns that you may have about the welfare of animals at SingHealth's Animal Facilities. Such communication will be kept confidential at your request. Requests for anonymity will be honored to the extent possible. All concerns will be reviewed by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Persons communicating animal welfare concerns will be protected from reprisal.
