Dapagliflozin - What is it for

​​Belongs to a group of “blood – glucose lowering drugs” for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (noninsulin dependent, NIDDM) as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. It increases the amount of sugar remove from your body in the urine and thus reduces the amount of sugar in blood.

What side effects can Dapagliflozin cause?

  • Consult your doctor if you experience any signs or symptoms of ketoacidosis (e.g., difficulty breathing, extreme thirst, frequent urination, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion, unusual fatigue or sleepiness), or urinary tract infection (e.g. burning sensation when urinating, frequent urge to urinate despite lack of urine, unusual smelling or cloudy urine, blood in urine, pain in lower abdomen or back, fever or chills)
  • Genital yeast infections of penis or vagina (signs may include irritation, itching, unusual discharge or odour), increase volume of urination, urinary tract infection, feeling thirsty, increase cholesterol levels, allergic reaction like itching, rashes, trouble breathing, swelling of mouth, face, lips, tongue or throat.
  • Low blood sugar level symptoms such as shaking, sweating, feeling very anxious, fast heart beat; feeling hungry, headache, change in vision; a change in your mood or feeling confused. This happens especially if you are consuming with a sulphonylurea or insulin

  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or if you are breast-feeding
