Regorafenib - What is it for

​Regorafenib is a targeted medicine used in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer.

Regorafenib - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Regorafenib cause?

  • Palms of the hands or soles of the feet may become dry, sore, itchy or numb
  • Diarrhea, stomach discomfort, nausea or decreased appetite and weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Some body weakness/fatigue
  • Infection
    Maintain hygiene and see the doctor if fever measures above 38°C
  • Mouth ulcer or voice changes/hoarseness

Inform your doctor if any of the following occurs:

  • Severe ulceration, pain or swelling of the hands or feet
  • Signs of unusual bleeding e.g. unexplained bruises or black, sticky stools
  • Chest pain/tightness
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes or tea-colored urine
  • Severe headache, giddiness, confusion or change in vision
  • Severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or fever

 

Before taking Regorafenib, what precautions must I follow?

  • Effective birth control measures are recommended for both men and women during treatment and for at least 2 months after stopping treatment. Inform your doctor if pregnancy is intended or suspected.
  • Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any other medical conditions or if you are taking any other medicines or supplements. Do not self-medicate.
  • If you are required to undergo surgery, inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine. You will most likely be required to stop Regorafenib 2 weeks before surgery.

 

What food or medicine must I avoid when I take Regorafenib?

Avoid grapefruit and its juice while you are on this medicine.

Regorafenib - Dosage and How to Use

How should Regorafenib be used?

Take it once daily at the same time each day for 3 weeks then stop for 1 week. Take the exact number of tablets as instructed by your doctor each time.

Regorafenib should be taken after a low fat meal.

Examples include:

  • 2 slides of bread + 1 tablespoon of low-fat margarine + 1 tablespoon of jam + 240mL of skim milk

                                                                                        OR

  • 1 cup of cereal + 240mL of skim milk + 1 slice of toast with jam + apple juice + 1 cup of coffee or tea

 

What should I do if I miss a dose?

​Take the medicine as soon as you remember. Do not take 2 doses in the same day.

 

What should I do if I overdose?

If you overdose on this medicine, inform your doctor immediately.

Do not break or crush the tablets.
