Sacubitril/Valsartan - What is it for

Patients with heart failure which occurs when the heart is weak and unable to pump enough blood to the lungs and the rest of the body. This medicine reduces the risk of death and hospitalization in chronic heart failure.

It is usually used with other heart failure therapies, in place of an ACE inhibitor or ARB therapy.

Sacubitril/Valsartan - Side Effects, Precautions, and Contraindications

What side effects can Sacubitril/Valsartan cause?

  • Dizziness
  • Angioedema (swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat that results in trouble in breathing)
  • Your doctor may need to monitor you for electrolytes imbalances when you are on this medication

Before taking Sacubitril/Valsartan, what precautions must I follow?

  • Do not take sacubitril/valsartan for at least 36 hours before or after you take an ACE inhibitor medicine
  • Inform your doctor if you are taking these medications (potassium supplements, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs, lithium or other high blood pressure medications such as ACE inhibitor, ARB, aliskiren)
  • Inform your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or if you are breast-feeding.

You should not take this medicine if you:

  • have allergy to any sacubitril, valsartan or any component of Entresto
  • have a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor or ARB therapy
  • are taking ACE inhibitors
  • are diabetic and taking aliskiren
  • are pregnant
  • are breastfeeding
  • have poor kidney function
