Objective

Duke University and Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS) are pleased to announce a call for proposals for collaborative bio-engineering pilot projects between faculty based in Durham and those based in Singapore. The ultimate goal of this program is the development of international innovation teams that advance translational and clinical medical technologies1 towards commercialization.

Awards will support novel ideas, applied research, potential products, nascent services and creative projects that if successful, will lead to new opportunities in the market. To receive funding, projects must demonstrate a potential path to subsequent financial support, new company formation, licensing, not-for-profit partnering or other channels to enable translation.

Funding Details

Up to USD50,000 will be made available to split between the Duke PI and Duke-NUS PI. Awards are for 12-months. No grant extension will be granted.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Faculty based in Durham with those based in Singapore.

  2. For  this award, Duke-NUS faculty are defined as being based primarily in Singapore, and includes investigators in SingHealth who hold an appointment with Duke-NUS.

Submission

  1. There is only one Letter of Intent submission needed. Each Letter of Intent involves 1 Duke PI and 1 Duke-NUS PI. The PI (faculty) based in Singapore should coordinate with the faculty based in Duke Durham to ensure a single submission.

Note: SingHealth PIs are to please refer to your respective Institutional Research Administrators for guidance on internal deadlines and submission procedures set by your institutions.

  1. Interested faculty member to submit a 1 page (a single PDF file) Letter of Intent describing:
    a) the general nature of the proposed project.
    b) key personnel names of the Principal Investigators from Duke and Duke-NUS
    c) NIH Biographical Sketches of the Principal Investigators from Duke and Duke-NUS
