Objective
The Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO) supports potentially transformative proposals that address important problems at the frontiers of the life sciences, or barriers to progress in the life sciences. Projects should challenge existing paradigms by using novel approaches and techniques. Applications for high-risk/high-reward projects are particularly encouraged.
Research projects may range from biological functions at the molecular and cellular level up to the biological systems level, including cognitive functions. All levels of analysis are supported: for example studies on genes and individual molecules, intracellular networks, intercellular associations in tissues and organs, and networks underlying the complex functions of entire organisms, populations, or ecosystems.
The aim of the Program is to promote, through international cooperation, basic research focused on the elucidation of the sophisticated and complex mechanisms of living organisms for the benefit of all humankind.
Singapore is a member country of Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP). As a member country, Singapore researchers are eligible to participate in various HFSP Grant mechanisms, including the Research Grants and Postdoctoral Fellowships.
Two kinds of fellowships are available - 1) Cross-Disciplinary Fellowships (CDF) 2) Long-Term Fellowships (LTF).
The following information is intended for applicants who are concerned about international travel and mobility due to the COVID-19 pandemic: HFSPO is monitoring the development of the pandemic very closely and will provide assistance and flexibility in case of circumstances that may prevent an awardee to pick up the fellowship as anticipated.
Funding Details
The HFSP postdoctoral fellowship can be held for up to 3 years.
The fellowship includes allowances for Living, Child, Parental leave, Research and travel as well as Relocation. Please refer to '2022 LTF application guidelines' for more information on the allowances.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants with a Ph.D. in a biological discipline, and who intend to broaden their expertise with a project in the life sciences which is significantly different from their previous Ph.D. or postdoctoral work.
A candidate who is not a national from one of the supporting countries (see list from attached '2022 LTF application guidelines') may apply to work only in a research institution in one of the supporting countries.
A candidate who is a national of one of the supporting countries can apply to work in a research institution in any country.
For the LOI stage, applicants must have at least one lead author publication which can be a manuscript (i) published in a recognized OA preprint repository or (ii) accepted for publication or (iii) in press or (iv) already published by a peer reviewed journal in order to be eligible to apply.
Please also refer to ‘2022 LTF application guidelines’ for the following grounds for ineligibility and exemptions.
Note:
Applicants must contact the Fellowship Office at fellow@hfsp.org prior to submitting their application if they want to claim an exemption to any of the above mentioned requirements or criteria for ineligibility.
Any exception will need to be approved by the Fellowship Office prior to applying.
