Objective

The Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Welfare Foundation (MSIWF) was founded in 1975 in Japan and dedicates itself to practicable research in the areas of traffic safety and senior citizen welfare. To date, the foundation has handed out more than 2,180 awards with a combined value of JPY 2,469 million (S$30.0 million).

The grant was made available outside of Japan for the first time in 2007, beginning with Singapore. From 2008, the grant was extended to Thailand and then to Taiwan in 2018. MSIG Holdings (Asia) Pte Ltd ("MSIG Asia") is the acting liaison for the foundation in Singapore.

Singapore applicants are welcome to apply in the below 2 scopes of research*:

  1. Senior Citizen Welfare

  2. Traffic Safety

Funding Details:

The grant award is up S$10,000 over a period of 1 year.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Singapore-based researchers and academics are invited to apply. Both individual and group proposals are acceptable.

  2. Young researchers are especially welcomed to apply.

  3. Members of for-profit organisations and research projects that have been completed are not eligible.

Submission

Interested applicants, please submit softcopy applications (either Microsoft word or pdf version) to communications@msig-asia.com by 30 June 2021 (Wednesday).  Kindly refer to attached '(2) 2021_MSIWF_Application_Form SG' for the template. Please note that your submission should contain the following 5 parts:

  1. General Information

  2. Research Plan

  3. Research Team (include a CV of the Primary Researcher)

  4. Reference

  5. Budget Projection (note the categories of permissible expenses and include catalogues and quotations as necessary)
