Objective
The National Health Innovation Centre (NHIC) provides the publicly-funded clinical research sector of Singapore with translational funding and strategic guidance to accelerate healthcare innovation. Established in 2014, it supports the development of innovative technologies and services to improve healthcare delivery and patient care. NHIC aims to expedite the translation of an innovation towards a market-ready product and offers funding for IP protection and the development of projects with a commercialisable outcome for the publicly funded clinical community in Singapore.
The Innovation to Develop (I2D) grant category:
The grant application must clearly illustrate the scientific merit, competitive advantage and technical feasibility of the project.
It must demonstrate potential for translation to a point where the technology would be attractive to an industry partner or follow-on funder.
Funding Details
The award includes up to $300K (inclusive of max. 30% indirect costs) over a period of 12 months, with a maximum possible extension of 6 months (subject to approval by NHIC).
Eligibility Criteria
Applicant must hold a primary appointment in and be salaried by public healthcare institution or academic medical school in Singapore.
Project teams must have strong clinical representation.
Collaborations with industry are encouraged if they strengthen the proposals.
All applications are considered based on merit and eligibility is not limited to NMRC-funded research.
Submission
Applicants are to submit their completed proposal to SingHealth Intellectual Property Office, SHIP (SHIP@singhealth.com.sg) through Host Institution's Research Office for initial pre-review.
Applicants will receive pre-review feedback from SHIP on the proposal through Host Institution's Research Office for revision within 4 weeks from submission to SHIP.
The final proposal application needs to be signed by your respective Host Institution's Research Director prior to submission to SHIP. SHIP will assist to submit to NHIC.
All applicants, regardless of shortlisted or non-shortlisted, will receive feedback from NHIC.
Only shortlisted applicants are allowed to provide written rebuttal on reviewer feedback and present a 15 minutes' slide presentation to NHIC Evaluation Panel, comprising of experts from academic, clinical, industry, investments, regulatory and commercial backgrounds.

Review Dates
The grant call is open throughout the year. However, the applications will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. From Year 2023 onwards, I2D grant call closing dates will fall on the first Friday of February, June, and October.
