Objective
The NUS Master of Clinical Investigation (MCI) Program was developed by the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in consultation with the Ministry of Health, senior clinician – researchers from various hospitals and research funding agencies.
The aim of the program is to train clinicians and allied health professionals with interest and aptitude in research to grow the local clinician scientist/investigator talent pool. The MCI program will equip them with the basic research skills needed to design and conduct clinical investigations that are relevant to patient care within their areas of specialization. This training will also encourage research collaboration between different medical specialties as well as across the three healthcare clusters. Please note that selection is on competitive basis and applications are assessed based on candidate's suitability and potential and also how he/she is compared to the other applicants as well.
All students who enrol in the MCI program are expected to complete both Coursework 1 and 2 in the first year as it is foundational for the research component. The research component can be started as soon as Coursework 2 finishes. Students are required to work individually to develop a research project under close supervision. There will also be ample opportunities to work in teams to develop research ideas into fundable research projects, and to learn other research-related skills such as scientific writing and presentation, and management of research teams.
The MCI program is completed in two years, with the option to extend for a third year if more time is required to complete the research component.
The MCI program will also provide the foundation for those who may wish to pursue advanced clinical research training, including that leading to a PhD degree.
Funding Details
Total fees for the course: S$61,912 (inclusive of GST)
In addition, students will be charged miscellaneous student fees each semester. Miscellaneous student fees help meet costs incurred by the University in providing services to the student community that are either not covered or only partially covered by the tuition fees. These services include healthcare for students; facilitating student cultural, social and recreational programmes; and maintaining the shuttle bus service, IT network and other essential campus infrastructure and services. For more information, please visit the Registrar's Office's website here.
The MCI program will also provide the foundation for those who may wish to pursue advanced clinical research training, including that leading to a PhD degree.
Funding for course fees
For students who may need funding for the course fees, NUS would advise applicants to apply for the NMRC Research Training Fellowship (RTF) grant, subject to eligibility requirements, so that they can know if they have funding support before they accept the offer to enrol in the programme.
Please note that next call for the NMRC RTF will be around Jan 2025.
Please keep a look out for updates and info on the fellowship under NMRC's website here.
You can approach your institution research office for assistance when applying for the RTF.
