Objective

The SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medicine (AM) Positioning Grant aims to support projects that are identified to be strategic to allow further alignment with national /SingHealth Duke AMC research strategies and with a likelihood of leading to improvements in health outcomes; position and advance these areas into world-leading programmes; and/or maintain important resources in the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medicine Centre (AMC).

This call is aimed at the strategic research areas that the AMC is supporting in preparation for RIE2030, under the following focus areas:

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Biodiversity in Medicine

  • Cell Therapy

  • Data Lake

  • Health Services Research

  • RNA Biology

  • Quantum Biology

Funding Details

The grant award is up to S$250,000 over a period of 2 years.

 Eligibility Criteria

Only investigators/researchers primarily employed in SingHealth and her member institutions are encouraged to apply provided the following criteria are fulfilled:

  • The proposed research project must be conducted within the SingHealth Duke-NUS academic health system and the PI must be primarily employed by SingHealth or her member institutions. The PI must have an official employment (permanent/ contract) in a SingHealth institution throughout the effective grant period.
  • For proposals involving patients, the PI/ Team should be Singapore Medical Council (SMC) or Singapore Dental Council (SDC) registered, as appropriate; or be able to demonstrate ability to access patients through SMC or SDC registered team members.
  • The project’s aims and objectives, and/or the same protocol have not been funded by other funding agencies.
  • No outstanding reports from previous SHF-Foundation/AM grants.

Selection Process/ Criteria

  1. Eligible applicants must be able to show demonstrable interest and understanding of the said focus areas in their application, preferably secured datasets and/or initial pilot data, and seek to translate or implement their research into health applications.

  2. Preference may be given to PIs with an established track record of research work and reputation in any field – preferably, but not necessarily in the said focus areas.

  3. Preference will be given to projects that show:

  • Alignment with National/AMC research strategies and with a likelihood of leading to improvements in health outcomes; position and advance these areas into world-leading programmes.

  • Maintain important resources in the AMC.

  • Applicant expertise and experience, design and feasibility of project plan, deliverable(s) of the projects.

  1. Grants are evaluated based on the importance, significance and scientific merit of the proposal, innovation, extent to which the research addresses important issues affecting human health, justification of the budget, potential to develop into a national-level type project, and other relevant factors.

  2. Applications will be assessed by senior research leadership from the SingHealth Duke-NUS AMC.

Submission

  1. Interested applicants can apply for the grant call using the 'SingHealth Duke-NUS AM 2.0 FY2025 - Positioning Grant Application Form'.

  2. Application must be endorsed by the applicant's Head of Department (HOD) prior to the submission to SingHealth Office of Research (OoR) through the Research Office of the Principal Investigator (PI)'s Host Institution. Only applications with following submissions received will be accepted:

  • (1 in word format without signatures and 1 in PDF converted format with signatures). Electronic signatures are allowed.

  3. Incomplete or late applications will automatically be disqualified from the review.

  • SingHealth Office of Research will only process completed applications from eligible applicants.

  • No change of PI once submitted.

  • All applications must be made using the prescribed form. Failure to comply with all the requirements will result in the grant application being disqualified from review.
