In the education setting, Professor Tina Wong dedicates significant amount of her time to clinical education and academic services in ophthalmology both in Singapore and on the international platform. She trains a diversity of learners from PhD students, medical students, biological science, material science students to residents, clinicians, clinician scientists and clinician innovators. On the international platform, Professor Wong is an active member of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA), the largest international glaucoma association, which serves as a source of education related to glaucoma. Locally, Professor Wong is the Founding President for the Glaucoma Association Singapore (GLAS) which aims to increase accessible educational materials on glaucoma for healthcare providers, patients and the public.
Research
On the research front, Professor Wong is a recognised scientific thought leader in the field of wound healing in glaucoma surgery and ocular drug delivery. To date she has attained nationally funded research grants amounting to over S$20M. Her work has culminated in the development of two sustained drug delivery therapies that have successfully reached clinical trials for the medical treatment of glaucoma and cataract surgery. She is a co-founder of two spin-off biotech companies generated from her research, one of which has attracted over US$20M in private investment to date.
Clinical
In recognition of her work, Professor Wong has received several national and international awards for her impressive contribution to the field of glaucoma, surgical wound healing, and ocular drug delivery. She was awarded the prestigious President's Science and Technology Award in Singapore in 2014, a highly coveted award conferred to top scientists and engineers in Singapore. The nanotechnology was also listed as one of Singapore's top 50 innovations that same year. She has been the recipient of the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Clinician-Scientist Award for the Investigator category in 2011, and twice as Senior Investigator category in 2015 and 2022.
