Programme Description:
Nurses frequently navigate complex ethical situations where clinical decisions intersect with compassion, dignity and person-centred care. Despite their critical role, nursing perspectives remain under-represented in formal bioethics discourse, structured ethics programmes and nursing-led ethics research in Singapore.
This Bioethics Nursing Symposium explores how nurses can strengthen ethical practice through capability development, education and reflective practice. Through discussions on developing sustainable nursing ethics programmes, balancing ethical principles with human-centred care, and addressing ethical challenges in dementia care, the session highlights the growing importance of nursing leadership in ethics.
Anchored on the theme Living with Illness, Caring with Meaning, the symposium is particularly relevant for nurses across all practice settings who seek to deepen their understanding of ethical practice, strengthen person-centred care approaches, and enhance their confidence in managing complex care situations with professionalism and compassion.
