Programme Description:
An author-focused presentation, discussion, and Q&A

Programme Details:
In this session, Danielle Lim will discuss her novel ‘The Sound of SCH’, published in 2014 and winner of the 2016 Singapore Literature Prize (non-fiction), together with editor Cassandra Yeap. ‘The Sound of SCH’ is a true story chronicling Danielle’s uncle’s life-long experience with mental illness, and her mother and grandmother’s stories. The book has an expansive scope, beginning in the 1960s and ending in the 1990s — all the while reflecting on the processes of memory and perspective that shape Danielle’s narrative and retelling. As part of its 2025 reissue by Ethos Books, the session will discuss the writing and publication of ‘The Sound of SCH’, and reflect on how it continues to address issues of mental health, stigma, and the complicated ethics of storytelling.
