AMC Jive After Five: JOAM & ACP Administrators Edition

What happens when the people who keep the Joint Office of Academic Medicine (JOAM) and Academic Clinical Programmes (ACPs) running get an evening to unwind together? On 20 August 2026, 46 JOAM and ACP administrators from across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medicine Centre (AMC) swapped meeting invites for mingling, email threads for lighter chatter, and to-do lists for a few rounds of games. While AMC Jive After Five is typically a space for faculty to connect, this special edition turned the spotlight on the administrators who work alongside them, providing a relaxing space to strengthen cross-ACP connections, exchange experiences, and celebrate work that often goes unseen.

AMC Jive After Five began in 2022 as a faculty networking series aimed at strengthening engagement and collaboration across our AMC, bringing together colleagues from the ACPs, Signature Research Programmes, SingHealth Duke-NUS Disease Centres, Joint Institutes, and Research, Education & Innovation Offices for casual conversations over free drinks and light bites. The series is organised by JOAM and funded by Duke-NUS in support of faculty networking.

Bingo, Banter, and Bonding

The evening opened with an address from Associate Professor Charles Chuah, Director (Clinician Support), Academic Medicine, SingHealth, and Senior Associate Dean, Academic Programmes Management Department, Office of Academic Medicine, Duke-NUS:

"Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to join us. I really want to acknowledge all our administrators, whether you're from the ACPs or JOAM. It's your hard work and effort that keeps the AMC growing, and I think we've all matured as a system because of it. To all our administrators, you guys rock!"

The event got off to a playful start with a round of "Mingle After Five" Bingo card session, nudging attendees to strike up conversations beyond their usual circles. Prompts such as "has a hidden talent nobody at work knows about" and "prefers calling over texting" sent colleagues moving from table to table, swapping stories and discovering unexpected things about one another. The first two to complete a row also had prizes waiting for them.

The energy picked up with the Mission Envelope Challenge, where participants were split into seven teams to tackle a series of missions - with few twists along the way. No majority votes were allowed, and any teammate could be called on at random to explain their team's answer.

The missions sparked plenty of debate and laughter. Teams weighed up dilemmas like a four-day work week versus 60 days of annual leave, uncovered surprising things they had in common beyond work and picked up light-hearted titles like "Most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse". To complete the challenge, each team struck one dramatic, all-hands-in group pose as proof of mission completion.

All Smiles, All Around

The verdict was clear: attendees loved the chance to network with colleagues from other ACPs and JOAM, and there was plenty of enthusiasm for more evenings like this.

To no one's surprise, networking and meeting colleagues topped the list by far, with drinks and food a close second, and interactive games and MOXIE's atmosphere rounding things out. "I like how we can finally put a face to the names and have different conversations," shared Ms Nurbaiti Binte Mohd Aziz from JOAM.

Throughout the evening, attendees were invited to pick up a Post-it to share a win, big or small, and add it to a "Wall of Wins" board. Before long, the board was filled with notes of appreciation, thanks, and shout-outs to colleagues and teams - a quieter but no less heartfelt reflection of the support that often happens behind the scenes.

Amid the laughter, conversations and new connections was a reminder of what AMC Jive After Five is all about: creating opportunities to connect beyond our usual circles, strengthening the relationships that already exist and bringing the AMC community a little closer.

Save the Date for the Next Jive!

AMC Jive After Five returns to its regular faculty-wide format, with two more sessions at MOXIE on Wednesday, 7 October and Thursday, 5 November, before resuming in April 2027. Each session brings MOXIE's signature Mediterranean flavours, red and white wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages, in a relaxed after-work setting exclusively for AMC faculty.

Colleagues across the ACPs, SRPs, SDDCs, and Joint Institutes are warmly invited to unwind, reconnect, and catch up. Whether it is reconnecting with a familiar face or finally meeting someone you have only known through email, there is always room for another conversation at Jive.
