SingHealth Duke-NUS Resident Research Scholar (R2S) Award

The SingHealth Duke-NUS Resident Research Scholar (R2S) Award is for SingHealth residents who are keen to embark on a research journey within the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC) during Residency.

The award provides:

  • S$150,000 research funding for 2 years. Refer to R2S Funding Guidelines for a list of fundable items.
  • 0.1 FTE of protected time for 2 years within the award duration. The protected time shall be personalised to the awardee in consultation with the Residency Programme and endorsed by the Residency Programme Director.

There is an option for a one-time renewal of 2 additional years with strong justification. Such cases will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The period of renewal shall not be extended beyond the applicant’s residency years.

  1. Applicants should be at least first-year residents (R1) in one of the SingHealth Residency Programmes at the point of application, and are expected to become at least second-year residents (R2) at the commencement of the award.




    Applicants who are in the final year of Residency and wish to embark on a research journey should consider the ACP Programme Grants – Nurturing Clinician Researcher Scheme (NCRS).

  2.  Applicant should be involved in a research project with a research mentor from a SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Clinical Programme (ACP) or Duke-NUS Signature Research Programme (SRP)

  3. The application must be supported by the Residency Programme Director (PD)

  4. Residents with / without MD-PhD may apply for this award. 

  5. If awarded, the awardee should remain in a SingHealth Residency Programme throughout the award duration. The awardee shall inform Joint Office of Academic Medicine (JOAM) should there be a change of Residency Programme within the award duration. 

  6. Half-yearly engagements will be conducted with the awardee during the award duration to monitor the research progress, clinical advancement and well-being of the awardee.
