Faced with an unprecedented crisis, healthcare professionals around the world have had to adjust the way they practise medicine. For example, telemedicine is being used extensively to support patients during the pandemic. Likewise, medical schools and universities have ramped up educational support to provide and deliver online resources as conventional face-to-face teaching sessions are cancelled.

The COVID-19 pandemic has provided opportunities and the impetus for re-envisioning both higher education in the 21st century and how medical education might be provided in the future. Technology will become more central. However, it will require an understanding of how to use technologies effectively in our teaching to develop future professionals conversant in using technologies well in their practice.

Despite considerable research on how to use technology effectively in higher education, the gap between research and practice still persists. Regardless of the pandemic, a scholarly approach to using technology is required in order to bridge the research-practice gap.

Join us to hear from Prof Linda Price as she shares insights on adopting a scholarly approach to using technology effectively to bring about transformative changes and meet the challenges of medical education in the 21st century. It is not about doing things better, but doing better things.

Join us for this AM•EI seminar with Prof Linda Price shares insights on how scholarly approaches to curriculum design can robustly and pragmatically improve the quality of student learning. Drawing on a recent study by Larsson, Mårtensson, Price, & Roxå (2020), the seminar will compare and contrast Educational Research and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Practical guidelines on how to adopt and advance scholarly approaches in developing teaching and learning in higher education and how it can help in career development will also be discussed.

About the Speaker

Prof Linda Price
Director, Academic and Organisational Development,
University of Bedfordshine, United Kingdom

Prof Linda Price is the Director of Academic and Organisational Development in the University of Bedfordshire. She is also a visiting Professor at the Open University in the UK and at Lund University in Sweden. She previously worked at Kingston University, London and the Open University, United Kingdom. Prof Price has over 28 years of experience in a range of national and international contexts. Her research investigates how organisations can holistically advance teaching and learning through sustainable and appropriate uses of educational technology. She has advised the Danish government on the future of higher education and has given numerous international keynotes on how to improve the quality of learning and teaching, supported by technology.
