ASSESS! Workplace-based Assessment - Part 1

The effective and efficient delivery of healthcare requires not only knowledge and technical skills, but also analytical and communication skills, interprofessional care, evidence- and system-based care. These skills have been included in competency-based framework in healthcare profession education. Assessing these clinical competencies requires robust workplace-based assessment.

This workshop addresses:

  1. Overview of clinical assessment: basic assessment principles, definition of competence.
  2. Criteria in conducting clinical assessment.
  3. How to perform clinical assessment: setting standards, aligning assessment with learning outcomes.
*Colleagues who have attended SKH's Fundamentals of Clinical Education do not need to attend the WBA-1 workshop .


Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, you should be better able to:

  • Describe the principles of assessment and forms/types of assessment evidence
  • Discuss how competence and standards are set in your work context
  • Align assessment methods with well-written learning outcomes
