Effective teamwork in healthcare is essential to ensuring patient safety and quality of care. Healthcare professionals from different professions often receive limited opportunities to learn with, from, and about each other. Clinical event debriefing following real-life events is a powerful tool not just for reflection, but for team-based learning and improvement. This workshop brings together the principles of interprofessional education (IPE) and structured clinical debriefing to foster collaborative learning, enhance communication, and strengthen psychological safety within teams. Participants will explore practical approaches to leading and participating in debriefs, helping to build a culture of shared learning and continuous improvement.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Define interprofessional education (IPE), IPE competencies and clinical event debriefing
  2. Recognize the value of debriefing in promoting team learning, improving patient safety and enhancing psychological safety within teams
  3. Apply and practice structured debriefing model STOP-5 in an interprofessional context.
