Visanne® is used to reduce both the painful symptoms of endometriosis and the lesions. It decreases the amount of estrogen and thus, inhibits the growth or proliferation of the tissue outside the womb.What is endometrosis? Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the one lining the inside of the womb, known as the endometrium, can be found outside the womb itself or on other nearby organs such as the pelvic wall ovaries, bladder and bowel. The tissue growth is stimulated by the female hormone, estrogen, and may develop into painful lesions.

Side effects tend to occur during the first few months of taking Visanne®, and subside with duration of treatment. Common side effects include:
Consult your doctor about any symptom that becomes bothersome.
Rare but serious side effects include blood clot formation. Report any severe pain or numbness in the arms, chest, and legs or feeling of breathlessness to your doctor.
Visanne® is not to be used in pregnancy or lactation.
Visanne® may be started on any day of the menstrual cycle. Other hormonal treatments should be stopped before initiation of Visanne®.
Visanne® is administered orally as one tablet daily without any break, taken preferably at the same time each day, after food. Tablets must be taken continuously without regard to menstrual bleeding. When a pack is finished, the next one should be started without interruption.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If you remember a missed dose at the time of your next dose, omit the missed dose and take only your regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
If vomiting and diarrhea occurs within 3 – 4 hours after taking a tablet, the tablet may not be absorbed. It is considered a missed dose and should be replaced by another tablet.
