Objective

Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS) is pleased to announce a Call for Proposals for bridge funding awards made possible by the generous gift from the estate of Tan Sri Khoo Teck Puat. The Khoo Bridge Funding Awards are made to help investigators with appointments at Duke-NUS who have had a lapse in grant support.

Funding Details

Funding per award is capped at S$125,000 for a period of 1 year.

Investigators who have received a Khoo Bridge Funding Award within the past 2 years (i.e. awarded between 1 October 2023 to 1 October 2025; both dates inclusive) will receive a maximum of S$50,000, if selected.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants must hold faculty appointments (Tenure / Research / Educator / Practice / Clinical Track) with Duke-NUS at the Assistant Professor level or above.
  2. Applicants must be a full-time (i.e. >50% FTE) staff member of Duke-NUS or a SingHealth Institution.
  3. Applicants must have been unsuccessful with a recently submitted (i.e. submitted on or after 1 November 2024) major independent investigator award. Please see the list of grants which are included (and excluded)1 as major independent investigator awards below. If the applicant’s non-funded grant application is not included in or excluded from the major independent investigator award listing stipulated in the "Note" section below, it can be submitted for Khoo bridge funding’s consideration, provided that the non-funded grant budget is at least S$400,000 and is of a grant duration of at least 2 years; and if selected, the Khoo Bridge Funding quantum would be up to 20% of the non-funded grant budget with a cap of S$125,000.
  4. Applicants whose non-funded grant applications are ineligible for future resubmission to national or external funding agencies – due to the funding policies, criteria and / or resubmission limits of these agencies – will be given lower priority for KBrFA funding consideration.
  5. Investigators who had previously received a Khoo Bridge Funding Award for a maximum of S$50,000 will not be eligible to submit another application until 2 years after the project start date of that S$50,000 award.

Note:

1Major independent investigator awards include: National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Individual Research Grant (IRG), Clinician Scientist Award (CSA), Singapore Translational Research (STaR) Investigator Award, Clinical Trial Grant (CTG), Health Services Research Grant (HSRG), NMRC Large Collaborative Grant (LCG) Programme, Ministry of Education (MOE) Tier II Grant and National Research Foundation (NRF) Competitive Research Programme (CRP).
