NMRC Open Fund - Individual Research Grant (OF-IRG)

Objective

The Open Fund - Individual Research Grant (OF-IRG) aims to support the conduct of research proposals in basic, translational and clinical research that are relevant to human health and potential, including research that looks at the causes, consequences, diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.

Areas of Research

The OF-IRG is open to applications in all research areas.

Applications are assessed based on scientific merit at the international level and relevance to Singapore.

The following seven disease areas (including multi-morbidity) have been identified as national priorities for research:

1. Cancers and neoplasms
2. Cardiovascular
3. Eye
4. Infection
5. Mental health (disorders)
6. Metabolic and endocrine
7. Neurological

Funding Details

The award includes up to $1.69M (inclusive of 30% indirect cost) for up to 5 years.

Eligibility Criteria

• Only one Principal Investigator (PI) is allowed per application.
• The number of application by an individual (as PI) is capped at 1 grant application per grant type in a grant call.
• Applicants applying as Principal Investigator are required to fulfil the following criteria at the point of application:   
  1. Holds a primary appointment in a local public institution and salaried by the institution.
  2. Is an independent investigator with a demonstrated track record of research as evidenced by the award of nationally competitive funding (international funding to be considered on a case-by-case basis) or substantial publication record.
  3. Holds a minimum of 9 months employment (per calendar year) with local public institution(s).
  4. PIs should have PhD or MD/MBBS/BDS qualifications. (Exceptions would be made on a case-by-case basis).

Submission

All applications must be submitted and endorsed by the Host Institution's Director of Research (DOR) online via Research Grants Portal (RGP).
