About Us
Licensed by the NParks Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) (previously known as Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority [AVA]), SingHealth Experimental Medicine Centre (SEMC) is the country’s most comprehensive animal-based research facility, capable of carrying out small and large animal research. It is the first academic research facility in Singapore to be fully accredited by AAALAC International, which certifies the centre’s commitment and adherence to the highest standards of humane care and use of research animals.
SEMC also operates the National Large Animal Research Facility (NLARF) for Singapore which is playing a critical role in the advancement of the Translational and Clinical Research agenda. NLARF was established in 2012 with support from a National Research Foundation (NRF) grant, which was administered by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC). NLARF continues to be funded by both NRF and NMRC. The development and operation of NLARF is overseen by a Joint Governing Board with representatives from NMRC, SingHealth Duke-NUS and National University Health System (NUHS).
