I am a nurse for the past 22 years looking after children, adolescents and women with diabetes in KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH). After graduated as young registered nurse from Nan Yang polytechnic in 1998, I realised being a nurse is more than helping people, we need to be equipped with knowledge, skills and an aptitude of responsibility. I am specialised in diabetes care with a post-diploma as diabetes nurse educator and completed my Bachelor Degree in 2001, Masters in Nursing in 2008 and Doctorate in Nursing in 2019. My duty of care includes inpatient and outpatient clinical reviews. As a diabetes nurse educator, education and mentorship for children and adolescents with diabetes (as well as their parents/caregivers) are pre-requisites to quality living of a chronic condition, and this extend to women with diabetes. It is of patient’s interest to receive holistic healthcare service from a hospital of choice for women and children, and this can be achieved by a dedicated centre for metabolic health in women and children, KKH. My name is Joyce Lim, at the calling for duty of care.
