Empowering the Healthcare Professional Educator – How can the Institution Support the Growing Educator?
Date: Saturday, 28 September 2024 | Time: 1405 – 1510 | Venue: Academia, The NAK Auditorium
Track Type: Plenary
Speaker: Prof Vishna Nadarajah
Empowering healthcare professional educators involves providing them with the resources, support, and environment they need to thrive and excel in their roles. These include opportunities for continuous development, teaching certifications, mentorship, recognition, and incentives. Aligning and meeting both institutional needs with educator professional development can be both tenous and rewarding. Barriers such as resources, bureaucratic requirements, workload and siloed processes can be tenous and result in delays for implementation. The outcomes of successfully implemented educator programmes with measurable positive impact on healthcare systems, and professional and institutional growth move the pendulum for senior leadership action, as the rewards are used as evidence for empowerment and sustainability.
By sharing several case studies from the region and internationally, this presentation will address the importance of contextually relevant approaches for educator empowerment and growth. Institutions, as a result may, need to rethink current educator programmes across the one health sphere for more inclusive and equitable outcomes.
