Patient-reported Outcomes and Value-based Medicine Symposium
Implementation and real-world utilization of patient-reported outcome and experience measures (PROMs/PREMs) in clinical care in Singapore
Date: 20 Sep 2025, Saturday | Time: 0900 - 1040 | Track Type: Symposium | Venue: L2-S2, Level 2, Academia
Quantifying the impact of treatment modalities from the patient's perspective using patient-reported outcome/experience measures (PROMs/PREMs) is imperative in value-based care. Digital technology (e.g. use of electronic PROMs [ePROMs], including AI-driven ones) has offered many advantages over paper-pencil administration. Healthcare providers, however, still face numerous challenges in implementing ePROMs/PREMs into routine clinical eye care, including issues associated with data security, limited integration with hospital systems (e.g. electronic health records), poor patient response rate and suboptimal doctor-patient engagement with e-PROM reports. Overcoming these hurdles will require collaboration between clinicians, administrators, health IT experts, and ePROM platform vendors; and is crucial for facilitating the adoption of value-based eye care models that prioritize the patient's perspective in assessing outcomes.
This symposium will bring together clinicians, researchers, and healthcare administrators to discuss their experiences in implementing ePROMs/PREMs in several healthcare disciplines including Ophthalmology, Rheumatology, and Anesthesiology and explore how recent advances in digital technology can help overcome these challenges. The session will feature presentations on real-world implementation of ePROMs/PREMs in routine clinical care, the challenges faced, and the use of mobile apps and patient engagement systems to facilitate successful e-PROM data collection. It will also outline best practices to expedite progress toward scaling up ePROM implementation in the future, including the use of implementation science practices to enhance stakeholder buy-in.
