Asst Prof Chang Shang Ming Alvin

Clinical Director, Quality, Safety & Risk Management & Senior Consultant, Department of Neonatology, KK Women's & Children's Hospital

Dr Chang is the Clinical Director, Quality, Safety and Risk Management and a Senior Consultant at the Department of Neonatology, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). He leads the Quality Assurance activities and was a Patient Safety Lead of the Neonatal department. He co-chairs the Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety Standards committee (an adaptation of the Joint Commission International- JCI standards and assessments contextualised to KKH), chairs the KKH Patient Safety and Risk Council (PSRC) and is a Patient Safety Champion.

Dr Chang conducts regular in-house Root Cause Analysis (RCA) workshops and speak up for safety seminars. He is also the President of both the Healthcare Quality Society of Singapore and the Singapore Paediatric Society. He had published a Cochrane review on neonatal transport and other scientific papers in various peer-reviewed journals locally and internationally on a range of neonatal-related topics. He regularly reviews manuscripts for a broad range of journals and serves as a guest associate editor for Frontier’s in Pediatrics and the Journal of Patient Safety and Quality in Healthcare. Dr Chang also served as the Faculty and Improvement Advisor of Singapore Healthcare Improvement Network (SHINe), a collaborative programme with Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).
