Prof Tan Kok Hian

Prof Tan Kok Hian is Group Director & Senior Associate Dean, SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute for Patient Safety & Quality (IPSQ) since its inception in 2017. He was Chair of National Quality Council, MOH (2017 – 2021).

Prof Tan initiated the SingHealth Patient Advocacy Network (SPAN) in 2017 and serves as the advisor. He led in the cluster-wide implementation of TeamSPEAK®, an in-house cluster psychological safety programme for staff to speak up for patient safety since 2017.

Prof Tan is a member of the expert group on Patient Safety in World Health Organization (WHO) since 2018 and serves as a WHO consultant in patient safety and quality. He initiated the Global Action for Leaders & Learning Organisations on Patient Safety (GALLOPS) programme since 2021 to nurture leaders for global action on patient safety, towards eliminating avoidable harm in healthcare.

Prof Tan received the WHO United Arab Emirates Health Foundation Prize 2009 as KKH Integrated Perinatal Care Project Team Leader and Singapore Inaugural National Outstanding Clinical Quality Activist Award 2010. He has been conferred the Benjamin Henry Sheares Professorship by Duke-NUS for his outstanding contributions in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2019. He led in national evidence-based guidelines development of gestational diabetes; perinatal nutrition; and physical activity and exercise in pregnancy.
