Dr Yap Kai Zhen

Dr Yap Kai Zhen is a lead faculty member involved in designing, teaching, and coordinating modules related to clinical reasoning and patient care skills in the integrated BPharm curriculum at the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, National University of Singapore. 

Her work on the use of serious games in pharmacy skills education was awarded the Mrs Tan Shook Fong–Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore (PSS) Innovation & Scientific Research Award, and Gold and Silver awards at the prestigious Reimagine Education International Awards 2017 by the Wharton School and QS Rankings organisation. She was also awarded the Provost’s Young Educator Award 2020 for teaching and learning of clinical reasoning. 

As a pharmacist, Dr Yap’s interest is in helping older patients make the best use of their medicines at home. Her research surrounds areas of medication use appropriateness, community-based pharmaceutical care services, medication adherence, and health literacy. She is the faculty-in-charge of CHAMP, a voluntary pharmacist student-led service-learning programme that provides befriending and medication reconciliation outreach to older adults under the care of social workers. She also serves as a council member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore and is the ex-officio of the Public Education Chapter and National Medication Information Workgroup.
