Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital Community Day 2019
On the morning of 30 Mar 2019, a group of staff comprising of doctors and admin personnel from the Division of Musculoskeletal Sciences, physiotherapists/ occupational therapists and nurses led by Dr Goh Seo Kiat and Dr Benjamin Kang, had teamed up to organize a half-day community outreach programme. The programme was hosted by the Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital in conjunction with their community day and was graced by Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong as the Guest-of-Honour. The community outreach programme has been a mainstay for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and it targets the community elderly. Started in 2013, it has been organized in 2015 and 2018 as well.
During the community outreach, the team was split to assist with the logistics, administrative and medical duties. Pamphlets that were supplied by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) were also distributed to the participants as educational materials. Overall, it was a well spent morning where the team managed to engage the senior citizens, raise awareness as well as educate them on the importance of their general well-being/musculoskeletal health (i.e. arthritis and osteoporosis) and at the same time give back to the community. The department looks forward to such events to facilitate volunteering and community engagement.
