Building an Education Portfolio – What You Are Will Show in What You Do

Date: Monday, 23 September 2024 | Time: 9.30am – 11.00am  | Venue: Academia, PSL2B
Track Type: Pre-conference Workshop

Speakers: Assoc Prof Ong Ming Liang AndrewAssoc Prof Nigel Tan Choon KiatAssoc Prof Jason Chang Pik EuDr Lee Wai Ching (Deanna)

This practical hands-on workshop is for busy educators from all health professions who want to find out what they can do to kickstart or enhance their education career by (a) learning what competencies they need for their education roles, (b) tracking their own growth, and (c)  how they can demonstrate the impact of their education work. With these new skills, healthcare educators can then present their work in a form that is expedient for promotion or progress  in the SingHealth-DukeNUS Academic Medical Centre and the hospital/clinic context.

The AMEI Educator Development Framework (EDF) was released in recent years to provide a framework for health profession educators to develop their education career. It describes the competencies needed for educators to flourish. However, the uptake for it is still limited and it has much potential to be applied when aligned with criteria for academic promotions. Our workshop would seek to demonstrate this alignment by showing how an individual can structure and capture their growth intentionally into a document that will eventually be used for their academic promotions.

Learning Outcome(s):

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the landscape for academic promotion and the role of education
  • Understand the role of the education portfolio and its components
  • Understand how to use the SingHealth Educator Development Framework (EDF) to guide their growth as an educator
  • Create an education portfolio

Target Audience:

Healthcare educators (medical, nursing, dental, allied health, administrators) who are considering a career in education.
