Integrating Simulation; Future Proofing Practice

Date: TBC | Time: TBC | Track Type: Plenary
Format: Face-to-face | Venue: The NAK Auditorium, Academia

Speaker: Prof Fatimah Lateef

Simulation has made its impact on the practice of medicine in a variety of ways; encompassing the spectrum from undergraduate to graduate and post-graduate, faculty development as well as inter-professional practice. The spectrum include training novices, who are building up their capabilities and capacity; to senior faculty, who need to upkeep their skills and test out new pathways, latent threats, educational options and practice management of rare cases.

Simulation with its broad spectrum and applications (simple and part task trainers, low-medium-high fidelity equipment, use of VR, AR and XR, serious games, hybrid simulation, sequential simulation etc.) is now integrated into many areas of medical training. The value of simulation has become more realized, especially with the offering of repetitive, deliberate practice, until mastery and competency is achieved.

Other applications include training in Patient Safety and Quality (eg. Use of The Mayhem Room concept), disaster, mass gathering and crisis preparedness, communications training, participatory / ergonomic simulation, where workers participate to test the state of their future workplaces and many more. This session will share, in words and pictures, the current state of simulation offerings as well as what to expect in the future of practice.
