Learning from the Arts in Medical Education through Experiential Narratives

Programme Description

This session focus on a medical education exercise where it delves into the teaching method. Participants will be given one hour to create visual representations of their experiences related to patient care issues. For instance, they will be tasked with illustrating scenarios where patients struggle to comply with diabetes control due to their busy lives. These visual representations are then shared with the class, fostering discussions and knowledge sharing.
 

Speaker Bios

Assoc Prof Goh Lee Gan

Associate Professor Goh Lee Gan is a retired Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, National University Health, Singapore. He graduated in 1971 with MBBS from the then University of Singapore, and received his MMed (Internal Medicine) in 1977.   He is also an Honorary Fellow and Senior Consultant in the Medicine Cluster, Department of Medicine National University Health System. He was awarded the Public Service Star (BBM) Singapore in 2005 for work done as Chairman of AIDS Task Force, MOH, Singapore 2001-2006. He is also the Wes Fabb Orator, Wonca Asia Pacific Region, 2009, and Screenivasan Orator, College of Family Physicians, Singapore, 2000. He was a co-editor and contributed 2 chapters to the publication Ageing in Asia – Contemporary Trends and Policy Issues. Editors Phua Kai Hong, Goh Lee Gan, Yap Mui Teng. World Scientific, 2019. 
Assoc Prof Cheong Pak Yean
​Associate Professor Cheong Pak Yean is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Duke NUS. He graduated in 1974 and received his MMed (Internal Medicine) in 1979 and MRCP in 1979. He was awarded the FRCPE in 1996, and FCFPS in 1997. He is also trained in Psychotherapy and Dermatology. He has taught these disciplines and also Family Medicine to doctors for 3 decades. With his training in Psychotherapy, he has also trained counsellors for 3 decades. He has written 3 books on consultation and communication.
