2nd Elective Medical Student Radiology Workshop – 10 & 11 May 2018

The 2nd Elective Medical Student Radiology Workshop was held on 10 and 11 May 2018. First started in 2017, this workshop aims to introduce and reinforce important radiological concepts for medical students at an intermediate level of training (2nd clinical year).

Led by SingHealth Diagnostic Radiology Senior Residents, Dr Jyothirmayi Velaga and Dr Keefe Lai Yusheng, this year's workshop saw more than double the number of students attending compared to 2017.

Under the guidance of Dr Vidya Subrahmanya Upadhyaya, Deputy Director Medical Student Education (Special Projects) in the RADSC ACP, the workshop retained the popular interactive game-show format. It also included a new section on approach to breast imaging, in addition to the previous modules on chest, abdominal, brain, spine and limbs. Students were divided into teams which took turns attempting the cases presented in each module, with a summary inter-team quiz at the end of the 2nd day.

Feedback from the students who attended was outstanding, with 86% giving the workshop an overall "excellent" rating (the remaining 14% gave it a "very good" rating). The students were also unanimous in stating that this workshop should be organised again for future batches, and all of them would recommend this workshop to fellow medical students.

This workshop is part of an on-going larger medical student education initiative in the RADSC ACP. Basic level CXR and AXR workshops are already in place for beginner level medical students (doing their first clinical year), and the Survival Radiology series (targeted at final year medical students) will see its 4th run in 2018.
