Assoc Prof Tan Lai Yong
Associate Professor, College of Alice and Peter Tan (CAPT), National University of Singapore

Graduated from NUS Medicine in 1985.  Worked in public hospitals as well as in the Prisons Medical Service.  Involved in training village health workers (”barefoot doctors”) in rural Yunnan, China from 1996 to 2010.  Joined NUS as the inaugural “Toh Chin Chye Fellow for Community Engagement” in 2012 after completing the Masters of Public Admin at the LKY Sch of Public Policy.
 
At CAPT, he taught a course “Hidden Communities of Singapore” which was a hot favorite among undergrads. Presently an adjunct faculty but spends most of his time in remote and rural communities in neighboring countries with youth in educational and community health projects.
