Date: 30 October, Wednesday| Time: 16:00 - 17:30 | Venue: Academia Room L1-S3, SGH

Speakers: Dr Jean Liu, Dr Peter ChowProf Jeannette R Ickovics

Programme Details:
Historically, healthcare systems have been disease-oriented, prioritising the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. In recent decades, there has been a shift towards more patient-centred approaches. This shift recognises that the human experience of illness extends beyond clinical symptoms, influencing treatment adherence, the doctor-patient relationship, and ultimately, clinical outcomes.

In this session, we will explore the multi-faceted nature of the human experience of illness. Through presentations and a panel discussion, we will draw from literature, ethics, behavioral sciences, and narrative medicine. Our goal will be to discuss how to integrate the human experience of illness into public health and clinical care, fostering a more compassionate and effective healthcare system.
