The Research Office of Medicine Academic Clinical Programme (Medicine ACP) aims to improve patient outcomes through high value research. We have developed the following strategies to achieve these goals by working closely with our academic partners:
• Developing clinical scientists/investigators
• Applying research findings to clinical care
Nurturing Clinician Researcher Scheme (NCRS)
The Nurturing Clinician Researcher Scheme (NCRS) aims to nurture and develop our young clinicians who are passionate about research work to gain experience and competencies to strive for competitive national grants. This Scheme paves the way forward for clinicians to embark on their research careers. This Scheme has been a successful stepping stone for clinician-researchers to contend for national grants such as the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Transition Award (TA) and the NMRC Clinician Scientist Award (CSA).
Pitch for Fund (PFF)
This Pitch for Fund Programme was initiated in 2013 and aimed at cultivating research interest among the junior and senior residents, medical officers and registrars. It provides funding to kick-start their research projects.
Shortlisted candidates are required to present their research proposals to a panel of judges who assess each project’s feasibility and methods before providing suggestions to fine tune and improve their projects. Besides being a stepping-stone for budding clinician-researchers, this programme provides a platform for Medicine ACP to collaborate with distinguished clinician-researchers across SingHealth and Duke-NUS Medical School.
The three selected areas and their champions are:
Diabetes Mellitus & Metabolic Syndrome
Dr Goh Su-Yen,
Head and Senior Consultant, Department of Endocrinology
Dr Charles Chuah Thuan Heng,
Senior Consultant, Department of Haematology
Dr Katy Leung Ying Ying,
Senior Consultant, Department of Rheumatology & Immunology
If you are interested to collaborate in any of these areas of research, please contact us at [email protected].
The health services research workgroup and the quality improvement team in the Medicine ACP work closely together to facilitate the integration of research with practice.
