Some challenges in healthcare simulation are best answered with a qualitative research approach, but many clinicians have not been exposed to these methodologies just yet. In this workshop, participants will get the opportunity to be exposed to course didactics and small group discussions to review published examples of qualitative literature in simulation-based education (SBE) as well as developing a quantitative research question and learning to choosing appropriate design, data collection and data analysis methods.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the workshop, participants will learn to:

  1. Describe key features of qualitative research for simulation-based education (SBE)
  2. Identify appropriate methods for a sample qualitative research questions, i.e. SPIDER framework
  3. Discuss common data collection and analysis for qualitative methods
  4. Examine examples of published qualitative simulation literature
