JUMPSTART YOUR TEACHING! Quick Tips to Teaching for a Beginning Educator


This workshop is an introductory session for budding educators to gain broad-based foundational knowledge and skills in education.

Through collaborative activities and experiential learning, workshop participants will acquire skills in planning learning modules and facilitating small group sessions, for example, conducting a learner needs analysis, constructing learning objectives, selecting education strategies and assessment methods, and using questioning techniques in facilitation. They will also gain basic concepts on programme evaluation.

During the workshop, learners will also experience how education technology (e.g. live polls/surveys, synchronous online learning tools) can be harnessed to engage learners in class.

  

Course Overview

The complete course consists of:  

  • Online Learning on WizLearn (Pre-readings and a quiz)
    • Estimated Learning Time: 1 hour
    • Duration: Open for 1 month
      • To complete online module and pass quiz before attending Zoom workshop
  • A Zoom Workshop
    • Prerequisite: Completion of pre-readings and passing the quiz

         

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:  

  • Construct appropriate questions to find out about the learners’ background through a Targeted Needs Analysis
  • Construct learning objectives with 5 elements: Who, Will do, How much/well, Of what, By when.
  • Select education strategies and assessment methods that align with learning objectives.
  • Describe the core facilitation skills used in small group learning.
  • Describe the use of active learning strategies such as buzz, check in/check out, role play, synchronous online learning tools
  • List the 4 levels of evaluation in the Kirkpatrick Model.

Target Audience

Budding educators (faculty and residents) who:

  • have little/no prior training on education, and
  • wish to acquire an overview and foundational skills in planning their teaching and facilitating small group sessions.

Course Fee

This ½-day workshop is chargeable at S$250, subjected to prevailing GST rates.
