Accountant Karen Tay takes advantage of Robotic Process Automation to relieve her team of repetitive manual tasks to focus on more interesting and valuable work. 

The Department of Future Health System (FHS) at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) spearheads the transformation of care delivery using technology and the cultivation of a future-ready workforce.

Its Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Core Team has successfully trained colleagues from across the hospital to be RPA Citizen Developers. 

Among them is Accountant Karen Tay, who has adopted automation to make light work of the processes for the annual revision of laboratory fees.   

The once manual, repetitive fee revision process that took four staff to complete can now be completed in a fraction of the time. Karen says, “More than 2000 tests are involved with each fee revision. Besides saving time, automation has also eliminated potential human errors. This has greatly helped to make our work less tedious and stressful. Work has certainly become more satisfying and even enjoyable.” 

After the successful implementation of this automation project, Karen plans to share her knowledge of RPA skills and lessons learnt with her fellow Finance colleagues. She says, “This is a good example of how we can use automation to transform our work in Finance. I am excited that I can now focus on more valuable and meaningful work and want to bring my colleagues along on this RPA journey.” 

Together, the Finance Department can then collectively consider how bots might be able to help automate other similarly repetitive tasks in their work processes.
