When seizures occur, there is a sudden abrupt excessive discharge of electrical activity across various parts of the brain. Dr Tan You Jiang, Consultant, Neurology, NNI explained that this can involve the motor, sensory, language, and consciousness centres, resulting in a constellation of different signs and symptoms. He also shared what someone witnessing a seizure should and should not do. Nurse Clinician Peng Xuejuan, NNI, said that identifying seizure triggers and avoiding them is a key part of epilepsy management. She recommended keeping a seizure diary to record seizure occurrences and possible trigger factors, and shared tips on lifestyle changes to address triggers.
