Dr Allen Wong, Consultant, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Services, SKH, shared that lymphoedema can lead to severe swelling known as "elephantiasis" if not addressed. At SKH's Community Health Fair on 31 August 2024 which focused on educating attendees about various health conditions, Dr Allen Wong said that lymphoedema often occurs following breast cancer surgery and results in limb swelling. During a health talk held at the fair, Dr Wong explained the progression of lymphoedema from early, unnoticed symptoms to advanced, severe swelling and highlighted the importance of both surgical and non-surgical treatment for effective management and improved quality of life.
