According to NNI, the number of people with young onset dementia increased from 120 in 2015 to 245 in 2019. Young onset dementia usually occurs in patients under 65 years of age.
Dr Chiew Hui Jin, Consultant, Department of Neurology, NNI, said that according to the Institute's data, Alzheimer's disease is one of the most common causes and types of dementia, accounting for 43% of early-onset dementia patients. In addition, frontotemporal dementia and vascular dementia are the leading causes of early-onset dementia, accounting for 24% and 18% of early-onset dementia patients, respectively.
